The factory 400 watt inverter in my F250 couldn’t power my 180 watt laptop because of inrush current. This device solved that problem and allows me to run a bunch of other tools that would have tripped over current protection before.
Worked Perfect! My table saw started with a loud jolt. Now it is a smooth start. It saved me from buying a new table saw.
I had ideally hoped to run a 5000 btu mechanical A/C off this thing to eliminate startup surge to my inverter.
However, by the time the compressor approaches even about half of full speed after starting manually along with the fans, it gives up.
I was told that long startup time has to do with how long it takes the low amp AC to warm up the soft starter's thermosistor set designed for 12-15 amps heat not the A/Cs 5. It would be great to have a switch to, say, decide how many thermosistors to distribute the load to, as I understand it, allowing a 5-6 amp appliance to heat up in time.
I was skeptical it would work with my 120v 3/4HP above ground well pump as it drew over 50A peak and my 4000W inverter wouldn't start it. Now It draws 20-25a peak and 1100W constant until cutoff. The inverter handles it fine now and no light dimming either.
We are using this unit with a Ryobi 12” miter saw which is rated at 12 amps. The soft starter is a major improvement for the first 2 startups. But once the units cooling fan starts up I noticed that motor startup is not as smooth. Once the fan shuts off, motor once again is normal.
